
About Joe Miller
Joe Miller (@joemillerjd) is Founder and Host of the WashingTECH (@washingtech) Tech Policy Podcast–Washington’s Tech Policy Podcast.
Prior to founding the podcast, Joe served as Deputy Director and Senior Policy Counsel of the Media and Technology Institute at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. As a member of the Joint Center’s leadership team, Joe defined and advocated on behalf of the Institute’s policy agenda. His issue portfolio included Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), net neutrality, Lifeline, Health IT, and intellectual property.
Previously, Joe was a Fellow with the Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council.
During law school in 2000, Joe interned in the legal department at Sun Microsystems’ New York City office, which was located in 2 World Trade Center.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Joe spent more than a decade working in broadcast programming, production and advertising sales at New York’s Hot 97, 103.5 KTU, Classical WQXR (then-owned by The New York Times), and CBS Television Stations Group.
He is a graduate of New York Law School (J.D.), where his coursework under the late Professor Michael Botein, focused on telecommunications, technology, media and intellectual property law and policy. While in law school, Joe served as an editor of Media Law & Policy — New York Law School’s communications policy journal. He completed his undergraduate work at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh (B.Sc. – Mass Communications, with honors).
A native of Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Joe attended the acclaimed Fiorello H. LaGuardia (Fame) High School of Music and Art and the Performing Arts whose alumni include Jennifer Aniston, Al Pacino, Omar Epps, Eartha Kitt, and Arthur Rubinstein among others.
He is admitted to the bars of the State of New York, District of Columbia and the Supreme Court of the United States.
He is also a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and is a member of the Project Management Institute.
His pro bono work includes providing legal assistance to Washington, D.C. residents who are homeless or threatened by homelessness.
He lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and two daughters.
